The day we found her for a better life.!
This little girl Sumaiya was forced to drop out of school by her parents. But this young girl fought to achieve what was right for her. Her mother wasn’t well and her father works on a construction site and earn only Rs 300 per day on average…! More than half of the amount is drained out in the medical treatment of Sumaiya’s mother. And with what remains month’s expenditure become difficult, leaving the family in hand to mouth condition. With this situation educational expenditure of two children was very difficult. As she passed the 1st standard, she was made to stop going to school. Her parents gave priority to only educating their son. And she was asked to do the household chores to support her ill mother. She always reasoned her father for that. But Sumaiya wish was not considered.
But she did not give up. She picked up books from her friends. And started studying at home along with domestic work. Her determination was spotted by our team BASTA. Team BASTA counselled her parents on the importance of education for a girl child. The councillors advised her parents to enroll her in the school.
Sumaiya is back to school for good quality education. She regularly attends her classes and even helps her mother in the household chores. Sumaiya and her parents are grateful to BASTA foundation for the opportunity that was given to her.

Many of India’s impoverished and disadvantaged population lack access to proper clothes. Those in need may benefit significantly from clothing donations. Many of us have outgrown clothing items stashed away in our urban houses. Children outgrow their clothing every year as they develop and gain weight. Donate your gently worn clothing items to charity instead of keeping them or tossing them away since what is trash to you may be a treasure to those in need.
We came across him at a petrol pump selling socks. We followed him for a few days and made numerous attempts to speak with him. Eventually, after several days of effort, he told us his story.11 years old, Piyush! After school, sells socks at one of the petrol pump in noida. At this age, he is responsible for looking after his younger sisters and working really hard to provide them good education. Although his younger sisters don’t have an Adhaar card to enrol in school, he works day night to take care of them while also showing maturity for his age. assuming accountability for his mother and the entire family! He refused to cease working when requested to do so because he had family to take care of. He is now the sole hope after his father passed away from alcoholism in the past.
She was put under house arrest by her in-laws for 2.5 years until she was rescued in the middle of the night by team Basta. She went through daily assault, even throughout her pregnancy. Her husband beat her with a rod, which left a mark on her lip. She is currently 22 years old and was married at the age of 15.
She has two kids.! No one is taking care of them. Her little daughter is just 1 year old.! She was not psychologically stable when she was rescued, but after receiving multiple counseling sessions, she is now back to normal. She did request me to share her story with others so that other girls wouldn’t experience what she did. I’m sharing her story today.
India’s child marriage curse persists in spite of numerous regulations. Child marriage not only destroys the lives of those children but also the lives of next generation. Save children, value life. Stop child marriage. Make a difference.
